Mad Genius

Meet Ethan Head
Interactive Art Director

About Ethan Head

If Patrick Stump hung up the guitar and learned CSS.

Ethan sits in his office all day, in near total darkness and with terrible posture, blasting punk rock into his headphones, and continues to churn out beautiful style tiles like it’s no one’s business—like every interactive art director. Occasionally, he comes out to discuss video games.

Q&A

Q&A

  • What is your hometown, and what’s the best thing about it?

Flowood, Mississippi. The best thing about Flowood is Millcreek (the neighborhood where I grew up). They have New Year’s fireworks, a Fourth of July parade, and a neighborhood pool that I spent all day at in the summer.

  • Who is your favorite real-life genius? Why?

Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of The Legend of Zelda and Mario. He created two of the most enduring creative properties on the planet. He also has a unique philosophy to making video games that is distinct to him, and he does it all without blood, guts, or gore.

  • What is the single greatest creative work you’ve ever experienced?

Three-way-tie: Death Cab for Cutie: Plans; The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time; and, True Detective: Season 1.
